In The Power and The Glory David Yallop returns to Rome with another explosive story: the true history of the papacy of John Paul II. From the first moment of his papacy, Karol Wojtyla sought political influence and a role on the world stage. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, he was a leader to millions of Catholics at a time of tremendous change. Promising a renewed church, he was the first media Pope and travelled around the world to preach his message. It is said that he was central in the fall of Soviet Eastern Europe, in particular within his own homeland of Poland. He has in fact been found innocent beyond reasonable doubt.' In 1978, as a direct result of Yallop's intercession and the publication of this book, Thomas was granted a royal pardon and, in 1980, awarded nearly 1 million dollars in compensation for the nine years he had served behind bards.

Yallop s ground-breaking investigation into Pope John Paul I s death just 33 days after his election is a tale of intrigue, murder and corruption. It reveals the dark heart of the Vatican via a trail of evidence that connects the papacy, the masons, Opus Dei and the mafia. New evidence has been gathered from John Paul I s doctor, who states that the Pope was not ill at the time of his death; from the priest that discovered the Pope s death; the ongoing Calvi murder trial.
Review
"'A thriller...Yallop has surely proved there is a case to answer. Guardian 'An engrossing and disturbing book' Economist"
About the Author
David Yallop is a highly regarded 'seeker of justice'; he has investigated, written and over-turned opinion with every book he has written. In 1983 he published In God's Name, which revealed the amazing truth behind the murder of John Paul I.

The impact of his investigations in such bestsellers as In God's Name, Beyond Reasonable Doubt and To Encourage the Others has reverberated around the world. In The Day the Laughter Stopped, he uncovers the incredible true story behind the Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle scandal of 1921, when the fat film comedian stood accused of the rape and murder of a pretty screen actress.

Arbuckle's is the story of a man born in extreme poverty who was destined to rise to the heights of a multi-million dollar career, only to have it snatched from him by a wave of hysteria and bigotry that swept the globe. It is the story of Hollywood and what really happened in the corridors of power; the political corruption of San Francisco; the immorality of a president. How Charlie Chaplin's career was saved. How Buster Keaton's was begun. Both by Arbuckle. It is a life story that ranges from comic heights to tragic depths.
